99.7 WAPW - Power 99

WAPW (Power 99) – Atlanta – Aug/Sep ’92 – Rick Stacy; The Big Watusi

This is a sample of Atlanta’s Power 99 — which, according to Wikipedia, was the “dominant top-40 station in the Southeast” at the start of the 90’s — just before it flipped to Modern Rock as 99x.

The aircheck features Rick Stacy doing afternoons. He had originally came to Power 99 from (possibly) Y106 (WHLY) in Orlando in 1988 for afternoons as well as to program the station. He transferred to mornings after Steve McCoy and Vikki Locke left, where he was paired with Leslie Fram. He moved to afternoons when Domino went to mornings, just prior to the change to 99x. Also is “The Big Watusi”, aka Steve Craig who was doing nights in Power 99’s last days.

Thanks to Benji Kurtz who (via Robyn Watts) made this contribution, and to Robyn for the detailed information above.
