Recorded 18 years ago this week, this is a sample of the Rio Grande Valley’s heritage CHR (now known as Wild 104). The station offered an interesting mix of pop and dance hits – the latter would likely be considered “obscure” in the most of the country, but presumably not in this market.
Here’s a montage of the Rio Grande Valley’s heritage CHR (now known as Wild 104, with a Rhythmic CHR format) from the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend 1994. The station offered a relatively diverse playlist – which was rather uncommon in that era (most CHRs seemed to have a pronounced “lean” towards either R&B/hip-hop or modern rock.)
