Baja California

XETRA-FM (91X) – Tijuana/San Diego – 7/15/96 – B.C.

Broadcasting from Tijuana, Baja California and serving the San Diego, California market, 91X has been one of the longest running Alternative/Modern Rock stations heard in the United States. This is a sample of the station from the mid 90’s, around the time when – per Wikipedia – the marketing and operating rights were acquired by Jacor Communications (later Clear Channel Communications). 91X is currently operated by Local Media San Diego, LLC.

XHITZ (Jammin’ Z90) – San Diego – 7/4/94 – Nick Monroe

This is a sample of Z90, serving America’s Finest City, recorded on Independence Day 1994.  At this time, Z90 was seemingly one of the most unique-sounding Rhythmic CHRs around; I personally do not recall hearing most of the songs featured on this aircheck anywhere else.

XHTZ (Jammin’ Z90) – San Diego – July 1992 – Cha Cha

Recorded on Independence Day Weekend 1992, in the BEST city for celebrating the holiday, here is a sample of San Diego’s longtime Rhythmic CHR, Jammin’ Z90. This is definitely one of the more unique-sounding Rhythmic CHRs I’ve ever heard – it almost sounded like a Rhythmic Oldies station at times. Be sure to check out the other Z90 aircheck posted here, from the same weekend in 1994.
