In the mid to late 90’s, CKEY offered a dance music-heavy Rhythmic CHR format branded as “FM 101 The Planet”. This is a sample of the station during mixshow programming, hosted by Dance music expert Chris Sheppard.
Recorded 18 years ago this month, this is a sample of CKEY during its days as a dance-heavy Rhythmic CHR. Most of the aircheck is focused on regular programming; however, some form of mix show (hosted by “Sam The Man”) is heard toward the end (along with a heavy dose of static). CKEY now offers a Mainstream CHR format as CFLZ “2 Day FM”.
According to Wikipedia, CIDC (licensed to Orangeville, ON) has been programming some form of Rhythmic-oriented CHR since 1995. This brief sample from the days of Hot 103.5 (pronounced “103 dot 5”) begins with a sample of the syndicated “Pirate Radio” program (recorded 16 years ago today.) My apologies in advance for the particular for the fluctuation in pitch during the final minute. I wouldn’t normally publish a post with this types of audio issue, but made an exception for this one since it’s one of the relatively few Canadian airchecks in my collection. The station evolved to “Hits 103.5” in February 1998.
