WZJM (Jammin’ 92) – Cleveland – Summer 1995

WZJM offered a pure Mainstream CHR format through most of 1995, as demonstrated on this montage. Towards the end of the year, the playlist began leaning in a Dance/Rhythmic direction (as heard on THIS compilation of the station from June 1997) – it would remain that way until the station became a victim of the “Jammin Oldies” fad in March 1999. Many thanks to Mark Pfeifer for contributing this aircheck!

WDJX (99.7 DJX) – Louisville, KY – Summer 1997

This is a montage of Louisville’s longtime Mainstream CHR (30+ years as of this writing) from sometime in the Summer of 1997.

KOY-FM (Y95) – Phoenix – Summer/Fall 1991

In the late 80′s, and the very early 90′s, Phoenix was one of the best markets for fans of the CHR format.  Nationwide Communications’ heritage KZZP found itself in a heated battle with The Broadcast Group’s Power 92 (KKFR) and Edens Broadcasting’s Y95 (KOY-FM). KZZP dominated for most of the 80′s.  But with changes in management, personalities, and pop music tastes — ratings dropped significantly in the early 90′s, leading to a format and name change in April 1991. Y95, capitalizing on the changes and later demise of KZZP, enjoyed ratings success at the start of the decade. This is an official station composite of the station from the Summer and Fall of 1991.

KPSI (Power 100.5) – Palm Springs, CA – Summer 2000 – Huero from the Ghetto

This is a sample of what was once the dominant CHR in Southern California’s Coachella Valley.  Another aircheck of Power 100.5, recorded around the same time, is available here.
