96.3 WBBM-FM - B96

WBBM-FM (B96) – Chicago – 1989 – José Solis

Chicago’s heritage from 1989 (most likely Fall or Winter). The station was seemingly in the process of evolving to full-fledged Rhythmic CHR at this time.

  1. I proudly recorded this aircheck. (Many years later Doug Flemming raided my aircheck stash and flooded copies of them everywhere, after promising he would not. Doug loved radio and couldn’t help himself). I have the original tape, still, to this day. Sounds just as bad as the digital copy on here. Lol. I recorded it on a tape which was about 5 cents from Walgreen’s and used about 100 times. I digress. Juan Solis was a great jock for nights. I wish I knew what happened to him. B96 was transitioning into a serious CHR/Dance station at the time. Rhythmic was not a term used to describe it during this period, as it was not Urban heavy but relied on Latin and Pop based dance hits of the period. Great times, great radio through the “Killer B” era.
