On occassion, we will break our own rules and post material from the AM band. Here’s the first of two examples that will appear on the site this week. “Top 40, Fun!…WINX!” was a short-lived, ill-fated second attempt at making an CHR format work on 1600 AM in the Washington, DC area.

Marilyn Goff Pittore
My dad Jim Goff was a night time DJ at winx 1600 am in Rockville in the early 60’s. I remember him saying that the boss left notes all over for the dj’s to communicate with them. I am trying to remember if he had a radio name he went by.,.anyone remember?

This aircheck was actually recorded 4 days before it transitioned to Spanish AC. In fact, just before midnight on the day this was recorded, the station aired its final Top 40 tunes just before 6 pm that day before WINX went off the air for 3 days. So in a sense, this is the last day of the Top 40 format.
