92.7/92.5 WCBR/WBRO/WDEK - Kiss-FM
WKIE/WKIF/WDEK (The New 92 Kiss-FM) – suburban Chicago – 8/9/99 – Luis 2Live Lopez
In November 1998, pure Mainstream CHR was heard on Chicagoland airwaves (for the first time in many years) with the launch of “92.7 Kiss-FM“ on a pair of suburban signals. This is a sample of the station about 9 months into its existence (recorded 16 years ago today.)
More information on the history of this station can be found at Wikipedia.
This aircheck is pretty significant. It’s Luis’s FIRST 7p-12a show on Kiss!
I had done nights from day one till 8/6/99 (the previous Friday). I then shifted down the hall to be APD/MD/Nights on the brand new “80s Channel,” 103.1 WXXY. Luis was promoted from overnights to evenings.
This would be the following Monday night and Luis’s very first shift in the new timeslot. Way to go, “2 Live!”
Fun fact: Luis is STILL heard in evenings on that frequency as he now works at Dance Factory Radio, broadcasting on 92.7, 92.5 and even 99.9.
