KKFR (Power 92) – Phoenix – Labor Day ’96 Dance Party – Various Personalities
From 19 years ago this weekend, this is an extended sample of the “Labor Day Dance Party” on KKFR (Power 92) in Phoenix. It was presented in a “Top 250” format. Regrettably, I did not record the entire countdown uninterrupted from start to finish, but this montage still represents what was originally over 8 hours of material spread across six cassettes. Several of the station’s air personalties are heard on this aircheck; they are listed in the Tags section (below).
At the time, crosstown KBZR (103.9 FM) was in the midst of a 6-month stunt (more details at the Format Change Archive.) playing many of the songs heard on this countdown. At the time, rumors ran rampant that the station eventually sign on with some sort of dance-oriented format — and so it’s possible that Power 92 offered this programming in response to that possibility.

Wow…good times. Oh how I miss this station.
Actually if it aired back on labor day in 1996, the clip would be from 17 years ago this weekend.
Yep – this is a “rerun” of a post I made over Labor Day Weekend last year…forgot to edit the “years ago” figure initially, but it’s been changed on the site itself. (Can’t edit the FB post unfortunately.) Thanks!
No problem, just thought I would point that out if it happened to be a typo or something. Thanks for the clip.
I’m glad that you did 🙂
I miss Power 92 and I’ve never lived in Phoenix, nor heard it on FM. The airchecks of this station help me realize its hotness and greatness. May it RIP.
