“Fun 107” (107.1 WFHN Fairhaven/New Bedford, MA) certainly lives up to its relatively unique name, even to this day. In the late 90’s, it was one of the best-sounding stations around, offering a Rhythmic-leaning Mainstream CHR format that even included a few dance/rhythmic classics. Production-wise, the enthusiastic delivery of the voice guy (can’t recall his name — can anyone help?) and jingles were outstanding. This aircheck is from an early evening in late May 1999. EDIT: The voice of the station was Pat Garrett. Thanks Jeremy Andrews for the info!
Recorded 19 years ago this month, here’s a sample of a station that branded itself (to a degree) as a CHR (with the positioning statement “Mega Hits”), yet offered a Rock-leaning Hot AC format. More information about the history of this station/frequency can be found at Wikipedia.

Voiced by the late and great Brian James, here’s a sample of the station recorded 15 years ago today. (We also have another Fun 107 montage already posted that was taped just a few days after this one.) At the time this aircheck was recorded, the Fun 107 imaging was being used as a stunt format for then sister station WZZP Atlantic City, NJ which we previously spotlighted here.
Probably the most bizarre aircheck in my collection, Variety 107 FM very much lived up to its name. It begins with a 5.5 minute sports report, followed by a random assortment of songs. One of the sweepers announces that the station is “all request”, and it was apparently true. The person who recorded and sent me this tape requested a song by the Chipmunks – and they played it! The rest of the tape features one of the station’s sports reporters (I assume) at the cafeteria of a local college, interviewing several members of the school’s wrestling team. Also included is a pseudo-PSA asking listeners to support the advertisers featured on the station.
